Good morning, GURPSers, GURPSies, and gregarious GURPSaholics of all sorts,
If you’ve yet to throw in on the totally awesome, must-have “Dungeon Fantasy RPG” Kickstarter, you still have five hours as of this writing to rectify that!
I was delighted to find in my inbox this morning an email from Steve Jackson Games containing “an exclusive piece of content not found in the boxed set [that] won’t be available anywhere but your page until well after the KS ends.” To see the other five pieces of exclusive content that have been released, follow the links in this forum thread.
This is a brand-new Dungeon Fantasy spell called “Land Mine,” revealed to the world first here and only here at Game Geekery. Check it out:
Not only do I like the spell itself, I like the way it is presented: clear, concise, and ready to be used to blow the stuffing out of pursuing bad guys. BOOM. Between this and the other samples released in the Kickstarter updates, I’m really looking forward to this new streamlined presentation.
I am very excited about this boxed-set, “Powered by GURPS” version of Dungeon Fantasy, for a number of reasons:
- It will be a GURPS product actually on store shelves that people can see with their eyes and touch with their hands. This is a huge, huge thing just by itself. I often hear people around the GURPS games I run at cons saying things like, “They’re still publishing GURPS?” Yes. Yes, they are, and now everyone will know it.
- I can point newcomers to GURPS at a single product that can serve as their introduction to the system, built for that express purpose. There is a ton of information out there for those finding their way to GURPS — I do what I can to create as much as I can on that front myself! — but it can be a bit spread out. A single point of entry is most welcome.’
- The grand success of this boxed set has at least the potential of leading to other physical GURPS products, which is something I really, really miss from my bookshelf.
- A physical, hold-in-your-hands-and-smell-the-print edition of “How to Be a GURPS GM.” This point is kind of selfish, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t stoked to see it come to pass. I’m not sure which visual to go with here — me as Demi Moore rolling around on a bed covered in physical copies, or me as Mena Suvari having physical copies rained down upon me. Take your pick, I suppose… they are equally disturbing.
There’s just a few hours left now! If you love GURPS, if you want to see more of it, if you’re looking for a streamlined way into the system, or if you just want to support the venerable and beloved Steve Jackson Games… head on over to the Kickstarter and see if it’s something you might dig.
Can’t wait until this ships!
