{"id":4489,"date":"2018-03-16T08:31:06","date_gmt":"2018-03-16T15:31:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.themook.net\/gamegeekery\/?p=4489"},"modified":"2018-04-15T15:19:51","modified_gmt":"2018-04-15T22:19:51","slug":"darknet-00-character-creation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.themook.net\/gamegeekery\/darknet-00-character-creation\/","title":{"rendered":"Darknet 00: Character Creation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Happy <a href=\"https:\/\/gamingballistic.com\/category\/features-on-gb\/gurpsday\/\">GURPSDay<\/a>, folks!<\/p>\n<p>Last weekend we had the &#8220;session zero&#8221; of our new <strong>GURPS Cyberpunk<\/strong> game, &#8220;Darknet,&#8221; and the video is now up at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.happyjacks.org\/\">Happy Jacks<\/a> channel on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pxs1_PlOmQ8\">YouTube<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twitch.tv\/videos\/237367363\">Twitch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Darknet - GURPS Session #00 Character Creation #rpg #tabletop #gurps #ttrpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pxs1_PlOmQ8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We went over a bit of GURPS mechanics, but the primary goal was to figure out who these PCs are going to be, concept-wise, and how they fit together in the world of L.A. in 2053. I imagine more mechanics will creep in once the game actually begins (and the characters are more codified).<\/p>\n<p>The concepts remain very similar to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.themook.net\/gamegeekery\/new-monthly-gurps-game-darknet\/\">the originals<\/a>. I&#8217;ll post more details as they come in to me (and I start translating them into GURPS-ese), for now we are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Alfonse Camus<\/strong> (Bill): A paraplegic who uses his earnings as a hacker to pay for the substantial medical expenses of his condition. Avatar is a cloaked, blade-wielding swashbuckler specializing in infiltration.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annette Thornhill\u00a0<\/strong>(Elspeth): The teen daughter of a powerful politician who uses her skills in The Zone to rebel against her father by (anonymously) committing brazen illegal acts. Avatar is frequently-changing, trendsetting, and expensive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bartholomew Iverson\u00a0<\/strong>(Tyler): Works as a Human Resources megacorp drone, escaping to The Zone whenever possible. Avatar is Dr. Discord, appearance TBD.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Teacher&#8221;\/TBD\u00a0<\/strong>(Kimi): Employed by a megacorp as an elementary school teacher for one of its arcologies. Avatar is a massive, disembodied suit of armor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As you can see, not a lot of mechanics have come up yet, though we did hammer out a few details of the world and how the virtual Zone avatars interact with it. I hope to get some bare-bones PCs sent to the players soon &#8212; we&#8217;ll tweak them a bit for point costs and such, then I&#8217;ll start prepping in earnest for the next game, currently scheduled for <strong>April 7th at 12:30 PM Pacific Time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d love any feedback at all on the first video. GMing online isn&#8217;t my primary strength, GMing on-camera even less so, so I&#8217;d like to improve what I can.
