This is probably the last update until the expansion is released - here is version 12-27-2006. As always, you can find the most current the MookUI_readme for all the gory details (including full list of AddOns).

I am back from Arizona, numb and in desperate need of something to focus my mind on.

Luckily sitting in a dark room, endlessly tweaking and updating my WoW AddOns, is just the kind of tedious busywork I need.

Here is version 12-20-2006 … see the MookUI_readme for details (including full list of AddOns).

You can download a .zip file containing all the AddOns I’m using here

Only a barebones posting, but wanted to let folks know I’ve made a few great changes (I think) to the AddOns included in the MookUI compilation.

See the MookUI_readme for details (including full list of AddOns).

MookUI v3 - Final Release

Filed under: Video/PC Games (12), World of Warcraft (10) — Mook at 1:35 am on Sunday, December 10, 2006

From the “MookUI_readme.txt”:

This is my final version of the AddOn compilation “MookUI v.3″, at least for a while.

As always, thanks to all the hard working AddOn authors out there who have created these gems - your work is very much appreciated!

The files in the download are identical to those I have on my home machine - all of these AddOns work together for me, chances are very good they will also work for you. If you do have any problems I’ll try to help as best I can (I can always be reached through the forums or blog at: www.themook.net), but I don’t have any plans to maintain this compilation indefinitely. Now that all of the main AddOn sites are showing sparks of life once more, there is less of a need for me to keep the compilation available for download.

I still think it makes a great “starter kit” of Patch-compliant AddOns though - so please enjoy!

To install these AddOns, unzip the file “MookUI3_12-09-2006.zip” to your “C:\Games\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns” folder (or wherever your actual AddOns folder happens to be).

MookUI v3 - My Latest WoW Interface

Filed under: Video/PC Games (12), World of Warcraft (10) — Mook at 9:07 am on Friday, December 8, 2006

I’ve updated my interface again, added a bunch more AddOns upgraded to work after the last big patch. As before, I’ve made a .zip file of all my current AddOns available for download (since all of the major World of Warcraft sites are still on the slow / incapacitated side):

My WoW Interface for Patch 2.0

Filed under: Video/PC Games (12), World of Warcraft (10) — Mook at 1:03 pm on Wednesday, December 6, 2006

The recent “2.0″ patch for World of Warcraft pretty much decimated a lot of AddOns. Rather than trying to scramble to replace my entire interface from before the patch, I figured it was a good time to start from scratch and see what I could piece together.

The results are promising. Though I’ve gone from 120+ AddOns to about a dozen, the core functionality I’m looking for remains - all data moved to the bottom of the screen and 6 pages of scrollable Action Buttons.

My WoW Interface, Update

Filed under: Video/PC Games (12), World of Warcraft (10) — Mook at 3:21 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2006

I recently pulled together a few files to post on the Blizzard “World of Warcraft” forums, so I thought I’d post them here as well for those interested.

I like to keep everything confined to the lowest third/quarter of the screen when at all possible, to keep the clutter manageable. World of Warcraft is a great looking game, I like to see as much of it as I can! Here are some screenshots.

Rearranging Deckchairs

I’m unemployed, 0 money coming in, no promising job leads, and depressed - however, I’ve not been completely idle.

Here is a video clip (~39mb) of my first World of Warcraft character to hit level 60.

Take that, cold and uncaring universe!

Howdy folks,

I just made a post on the “World of Warcraft” forums (the official Blizzard ones, not TheMook.Net ones) showing off the interface I use for the game, thought some of you here might be interested as well. Click on the pics below for the full size images.

Double Your Pleasure

Filed under: Technology (2), Video/PC Games (12), World of Warcraft (10) — Mook at 5:38 am on Wednesday, December 21, 2005

Tried out something interesting late last night with World of Warcraft after reading a few forum posts - I set my laptop up next to my desktop, like so:

Twoboxin at WoW, First Pic

In this picture the black keyboard standing upright beneath the monitor is USBed into the laptop; the white keyboard, mouse, and Nostromo Speedpad are hooked to the desktop (my normal setup). So, I then logged the laptop in to a WoW character I have on my sister’s account, logged the desktop in to my own account and one of my oh-so-many cool characters, and after grouping the two characters together I played my own little mini-party for a while, controlling both characters simultaneously! It definitely took some getting used to, but I had a blast - the desktop tanked and the laptop provided support. I’m not sure how fun this would be in an actually hostile area (we…um, I…were just bopping around the Undead newbie zone), and it’s not like I expect this to become the normal way I play the game (too hectic, not leisurely enough for my hippy streak) - but it was definitely a cool change of pace.

I eventually realized that 99.5% of the time I never move my hands off the speedpad and mouse, so I swapped out my desktop keyboard for my laptop keyboard, saved a lot of hassle. With some practice I was actually able to run (as in jog) both characters simultaneously, using my left hand and the speedpad for the desktop character and my right hand and the keyboard arrow keys with my right hand. Now that feels weird!

Anyway, just thought I’d share the love!

(In case you’re wondering, no, this is NOT against the Blizzard Terms of Service - go ahead and ask ‘em. I’m not using any kind of bots or hacks, only a few of the macro functions already built into the game, and both accounts are legal and paid for. It’s also not unethical, as anyone else with a laptop/second machine and a friend’s account can do the exact same thing … true, not everyone has those, but then not everyone has the one computer necessary to play at all, and I don’t see people giving up their WoW accounts in protest because some folks out there don’t have a computer.

So there.)

And now for something completely different:
